TUKU

TUKU REPRESENTS A PRIMARY CASE STUDY WITHIN UBUNTU 2.0'S STUDIO INITIATIVE, DESIGNED TO SYSTEMATICALLY EXAMINE THE TRANSMISSION AND PRESERVATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICAN CULTURAL SYSTEMS. THE PROJECT CENTERS ON THE CULTURAL ENTITY OLIVER MTUKUDZI, WHOSE CONTRIBUTIONS TO LOCAL AND GLOBAL AUDITORY FRAMEWORKS EXEMPLIFY THE MECHANISMS OF CULTURAL PROPAGATION AND INFLUENCE.

THIS STUDY UTILIZES MTUKUDZI’S OUTPUTS AS A REFERENCE DATASET TO ANALYZE THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN MUSIC, IDENTITY, AND SOCIO-CULTURAL SYSTEMS. POSITIONED AS A SYMBOLIC ORIGIN POINT, TUKU ESTABLISHES A FRAMEWORK FOR FUTURE INQUIRIES INTO ZIMBABWEAN CULTURAL DYNAMICS AND THE ROLE OF ICONOGRAPHIC INDIVIDUALS IN THE CREATION AND PERPETUATION OF COLLECTIVE MEMORY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE.
