IT SEEMS THAT MANY AROUND ME HAVE BUILT FIXED AND CONCRETE UNDERSTANDINGS OF THE WORLD—VIEWS THAT LEAVE NO ROOM FOR QUESTIONING OR EXPLORATION. IN THEIR EYES, THE MATTER IS SETTLED. WHILE I DON’T NECESSARILY DISAGREE WITH THEIR VIEWS, I OFTEN SEE THEM AS ONE SIDE OF A MULTIFACETED TRUTH. THE COMPLEXITY OF LIFE, IN MY EXPERIENCE, CANNOT BE FULLY CAPTURED BY A SINGLE PERSPECTIVE.
THE PRESSURE TO CONFORM TO THESE FIXED OUTLOOKS FEELS SUFFOCATING. IT STRIPS AWAY THE POSSIBILITY OF DOUBT AND WONDER—TWO ELEMENTS I BELIEVE ARE ESSENTIAL TO FAITH AND DISCOVERY. TO ACCEPT THAT EVERYTHING IS “SETTLED” IS AN IDEA I CANNOT EMBRACE. THE WORLD, TO ME, IS TOO VAST, TOO NUANCED, AND TOO UNFOLDING TO BE DEFINED BY ANY SINGLE FRAME OF UNDERSTANDING.
MY REFUSAL TO COMPLY WITH THIS FINALITY IS NOT AN ACT OF REBELLION BUT OF CURIOSITY. IT IS A COMMITMENT TO KEEP SEEKING, QUESTIONING, AND HOLDING SPACE FOR THE UNKNOWN—TO EMBRACE A TRUTH THAT IS NOT STATIC BUT DYNAMIC, CONSTANTLY EVOLVING WITH NEW PERSPECTIVES AND INSIGHTS.
